picture in picture in picture

I checked this link on Trendbeheer to the ING bank-art collection website and was surprised to find this painting by Frans Clement in it. It depicts an electricity powerhouse in Eindhoven with a SKIP-piece on it from 1985, it used to be close to where I lived as a kid. This piece to me was one of the first encounters with graffiti, I loved it. To see it on a photo-realistic painting in a big art-collection of a big near-bankrupt bank's homepage on the internet in the middle of a financial crisis ("What art offers is space – a certain breathing room voor the spirit" bla bla) to me is a pretty special trip down memory lane.

Here is the picture I have of it from 1988:

perfect circle

A cleaned perfect circle from some time ago. Luckily I managed to do one that was pretty perfect...and wasn't buffed yet. But it sure ain't easy.

Brilliant BBC documentary from Adam Curtis that questions the individual freedom we seem to be so focussed on in a world where digits have outnumbered feelings, emotions well, anything not deductible 10 to 1.
It's from 2007, but it doesn't take mathematic skills to add up the link to our current day credit-crunch-crisis, or whatever people make of it.

"The series consists of three one-hour programmes which explore the concept and definition of freedom, specifically, "how a simplistic model of human beings as self-seeking, almost robotic, creatures led to today's idea of freedom."

It's 3 X 1 hour, but it's worth it.

Check them here:

PART 01: "F*$k You Buddy"

PART 02: "The Lonely Robot"

PART 03: "We Will Force You To Be Free"

Horror Vacui at D'raw Heerlen

Check a little report on TRENDBEHEER of the exhibition, here is the timelapsed (sort of) sequence of "the making of" my Horror Vacui-piece. It is a nice contrast to the golden oldies in the exhibition, works from people like Seen, Dondi and Futura 2000 (next to people like Dran, Os Gemeos, Honet, Anne-lise Coste, Harald Naegeli and many others). And no, it's not traced. And yes, I did feel a bit naucious after 10 hours of non-stop black and white close-up paintbrushing.

More on the exhibition here.

Yes. Nice one Dave 2562. Is that a tune from his soon to come new album? Check. Is that Martyn's contribution for Hyperdub "5"? Check! Is that a killer playlist and some serious mixing? CHECK!

Check it here.

The great Lower Depths put up the Spirit-only mix by Nymfo that we released in 2005. Still really happy with how that silkscreen package turned out...but the mix and tracks are topnotch! LISTEN HERE

Recumbent Rides

Beautiful registration by James HG Redekop of 5 years of Toronto one person only. Imagine mapping all the people at the same time what kind of image that would make, Big Brother good luck! I love that site-specific counter.
